We are coming to Salzburg for three days week before Christmas
We have been a number of times before but usually in summer not winter and stay in a nice in expensive family hotel at Bad Vigaun to the south side of Hallein which we would prefer to do again. I was debating whether this was too far out as we mainly want to visit the city markets etc but there is a station with a good train servce right by the hotel and only takes 30 minutes. However I am not sure best way to get from airport . We could get a bus from airport to station and then a train to Bad Vigaun but a taxi may be quicker and easier but I have no idea how much taxis woud charge - any rough ideas?.
Are the airport taxi companies fairly reputable or are there some best to avoid ) a friend had bad experience at Prague last year
As we arrive at 9.15am on the Wednesday want to get as much in on that day if possible

Hello. This is a tricky one as with only three days you%26#39;ll want to make the most of your time so staying closer to (or in) the city would be a good idea. On the other hand I can understand you wanting to return to the place you like.
The Salzburg taxis are efficient and very honest. We%26#39;ve been loads of times and never been ripped off. A taxi from the airport to Aigen (which is about half the distance you want to travel) is about 15 Euro so expect to pay a good bit more than that.
You are right when you say you could easily get from the airport to the train station and then on to Vigaun. But not only would you have your train journey into the city each day but you%26#39;d also have to walk from the station up to the old city where the markets are held. This would mean that a fair amount of time each day would be spent travelling. I don%26#39;t recommend the hotel area around the station as it%26#39;s not a good part of town, but there are quite reasonably priced hotels in the southern suburbs where it would only be a short busride into the old city (ten minutes or so). Just behind the fortress are a few guest houses you might want to look at:
Pension Struber

Pension Freisaal

Blobergerhof
(you%26#39;ll have to Google this one as the link is so long)
These are in a residential area with a good bus service. In the city itself the Hotel Weisse Taube is popular. This is right in the heart of the old city, in a nice street, close to Mozartplatz. If you take a look through the hotel reviews on this site you might find something that takes your fancy.
I%26#39;m not really sure i%26#39;ve been much help but I do feel you%26#39;d maximise your time and enjoyment if you stayed closer to town.
Liz.
