Hello,
Zurich to Salzburg is about 270 miles. There are good, direct routes that you could take (autobahns), probably the best would be via Munich. BUT - I would not recommend the journey if you are not used to driving in winter conditions. We had driven a lot in Austria but would not attempt this journey by car. I have looked at the OBB rail site. Obviously I don%26#39;t know what time of the week you are wanting to travel but by train the journey would be between six and seven hours. One train looks as though it is direct, with no changes. Here is a link to the OBB website:

Just had a look in the timetable (after 9 December, annual timetable change), there will be 3 direct, very comfortable daytime trains (travel time 5:49h, departures from Zurich HB (main station) at 9.40 13.40 and 17.40 and one night train (which is too fast as it goes to Vienna... you%26#39;ll arrive during night).
For the timetable, have a look at the swiss railways website:
http://www.sbb.ch/en/index.htm
Full fare oneway 2nd class will be about 73 € ... maybe little more from the Zurich airport to Salzburg.
