We will be in Achenkirch in Dec %26#39;07 (15th - 22nd).
1. Generally how cold (temperature range) is the weather during
this time? Is it already snowing there?
We come from a tropical country so need to really prepare
ourselves!!
2. What can we do and see in Achenkirch?
Our group comprise 3 people over 50 years old, a 19 year old
boy , 2 males %26amp; 2 females between 20 and 25 years old.
The older folks are interested in walking, scenic views %26amp;
photography whilst the younger ones are looking forward to
skiing %26amp; snowboarding.
3. Never skied or snowboarded before so will need to take up
classes. Would appreciate info on how to go about selecting %26amp;
signing up for classes. Normally how long are the classes held
before one can hit the slopes? Besides ski/snowboarding
equipment can we also rent clothes?
4. Would Christmas markets be available during our stay? What
times are they open?
5. Would also welcome suggestions on other outdoor activities so
that we just don%26#39;t end up hibernating in our rooms!!
Thank you in advance for your replies. Cheers!!

I would suggest that you look at the area website --www.achenkirch.com
This site will provide some information regarding the town and activities.
Snow is there already- it will be cold freezing weather , especially as you go higher in the mountains.
The best place to start for skiing is to visit the nearest ski school for information about lessons.
Many places offer a package of multi day lessons , lift ticket and some times ski rentals. I doubt that you can rent clothimg.
Lessons usually begin with the basics immediately on the snow but with a easy , flat surface- as one progresses, you more to better terrain.
I do not know about this town but many ski schools have lessons in the morning perhaps 10- 12
some time out for resting and eating then resuming about 2 for 2 more hours.
This is a good place for winter walks , picture taking as it is on the north end of Lake Achensee.
Some hotels have spa activities .
Outdoor activities maybe tobagganing, walking or crooss country ski.
Is some special reason that you pick the Achensee area . It is better known for summer activities.

Hi Beppo-7,
Thank you for the info.
Why I selected Achensee area?? Well, because we live in the tropics and do not have the 4 seasons, we look forward to seeing and touching snow in winter. Further, Austria is cosy and not so commercialised as Switzerland. I read that to be assured of snow one has to go higher in the mountains and my timeshare counsellor advised that Cordial-Hotel Achenkirch was available. Since I%26#39;d be travelling half way around the world, 1 week is too short so I added another week%26#39;s stay in Cordial-Hotel Going ( from 8th - 14th Dec.) and 2 nights stay in Innsbruck (6th - 7th Dec.). Accommodation during the Christmas/New Year period is difficult.
Plan to make a day trip (or overnight) to Salzburg. Would welcome suggestions on how I can maximise my short time in Salzburg?
Thank you %26amp; Cheers!
