We are planning to travel from Salzburg to Venice mid-January and are wondering which route is the safest/easest in winter - the Brenner Pass or the A10. The A10 looks the shortest.
Thank you

The best and the shortest route is via A 10 to Villach and Udine to Venice: 439 km
It will take you 5 - 6 hours depending on the driving/weather conditions. But it will be all highways and usually no problem. Make sure that your rental car has winter tyres (I am sure this will be the case).

Thank you for your advice. The A10 looked the logical route, depending on winter weather conditions.

You may wish to become familiar with the ‘Rules of the Road’ for Austria and Italy - i.e.
Austria auto vignette, seat belt useage, headlamps always on, visibility vests, warning triangles, first-aid kits ect.
