train Bratislava Vienna

Maybe we will go to Bratislava from Vienna for a day trip on sunday 27 january.

Is it easy to do the trip by train? Are there regulary trains? Can we buy tickets the same day? Were can i find the depart - return hours?

Is it worth it to go to Bratislava for a day trip, on a sunday? I%26#39;ve heard Aupark is open on a sunday (shoppingcenter).

Thank you.

I do not find Bratislava that interesting but some like it.

One day maximum is more than enough.

If you have limited time in Vienna- your time is better spent seeing the sights of this city.Especially if you just plan to go to shop.

I agree with Vertical - Bratislava is not very spectacular....not a must-see. The city center is very small, everything can be seen within half a day.

Bratislava is a nice, quite small town with an old city center. It can be seen in a half day. Don%26#39;t know about Augarten Shopping Center... but you won%26#39;t find better deals than anywhere else in Europe.

The fastest, cheapest and most convenient way to get there is by train, usually hourly! You better take the trains to Hlavni stanica instead of Petrzalka, as hl.st. is next to the city center!

Best is to buy the EURegio Spezial Bratislava ticket. € 14 for return ticket incl. day ticket for public transport in Bratislava! Really a good deal! Can be bought from the railway%26#39;s ticket counter or ticket machines (the red ones at the stations).

And if your time is limited, you%26#39;d better stay in Vienna, visit Museums, do a walk, enjoy coffee%26amp;cake... Sundays are really relaxed.

Thank you all for your quick respons. We are staying in Vienna for 5 days. That sunday it is my husbands birthday. It was my intention to do something special that day. He doesn%26#39;t like too many museums, so i was surching to do something else that day. I%26#39;ve heard many things are closed on sundays, there aren%26#39;t any boat tours during winter time..... I%26#39;am trying to find something special we can do on his birthday... so i thought maybe a trip to Bratislava. It sounds like a bad idea now

Have you thought of a day trip to Salzburg?! it is just beautiful and easily reachable by direct train connection (trains leave from Vienna %26quot;Westbahnhod%26quot; station) within 2:36 hours:

Schedule info:

You do not have to prebook the train tickets, just go to the station, buy the tickets and board the train!

Soory - it should be %26quot;Westbahnhof%26quot; station!

I haven%26#39;t been to Vienna yet (going at Christmas) but have been to Salzburg and liked it very much.

My daughter is in Vienna on study abroad and went to a little town over toward Salzburg called Hallstatt. She loved it more than Salzburg. I looked it up and it is a world heritage site. I don%26#39;t know how long it takes to get there from Vienna.

Might be worth you checking it out.

Martinee, from my personal experience many Austrians tend to look down their noses at Slovakia and Slovaks in general so I’d take any advice offered here with that in mind.

Bratislava’s old town is very small and can be seen in half a day but the nightlife in Bratislava is much better than Vienna. Is it worth a special birthday trip in the winter, probably not. In the summer, I’d say a boat ride down the Danube and an evening in Bratislava’s old town could be a special, but that doesn’t help you. It’s only about an hours train ride each direction so you be the judge. If nothing else, you’ve seen another European Capital.

Thanks all of you for your reply.

After reading your oppinions I think we better stay in Vienna.

Maybe we will go first to Schönbrunn, in the afternoon Prater and at evening the Wiener Icedream near Rathaus. It sounds like fun also.

Thanks again!
