Nice restaurants

Hello,

Will be in Vienna for 3 nights at the end of October at the Marriott Hotel.

Can anyone help me choosing the restaurants? We would like to have dinner at tipical restaurants with local food and beer.

Any opinions on Figlmuller and Café Weimar?

Tks

You will be in my favorite city in the world, Wien / Vienna, and now I will direct you to my favorite restaurant in the world. It is Restaurant zum Stöger --- named after its owner and chef, Kurt Stöger.

http://www.stoegerrestaurant.at/

I have been eating here for 20 years.

It is easily reached via the U-Bahn (U-4 Pilgrimstrasse / Ramperstorffergasse) and is in the 5th District (Wien - V). Do call for a reservation, as it is usually very full.

This is true, Austrian food and service in the best classical style without being pretentious and yet moderately priced. Personally, I drink wine here, but you can have the beer you spoke of.

They have a regular menu and also a weekly menu, which features food of the season. The end of October brings %26quot;wild Spezialitäten%26quot; (game specialties). And if they have %26quot;Steinpilzen%26quot; (stone muschrooms / porcini), you have to treat yourself to that for at least an appetizer.

You always know a restaurant is truly good, when the same waiters, Ernst and Franz, have been there since forever. Just tell them and Kurt, that Robert from Florida recommended the restaurant to you and watch their eyes light up. I%26#39;m a %26quot;Stammgast%26quot; (regular guest) here.

To give you a comment at the two you have asked about

http://www.cafeweimar.at

Cafe Weimar is a very traditional Viennes cafe, which also serves a full food menue, and is nicely located near the Volks-Opera building. The atmosphere is casual / semi-elegant, lots of wooden wall-panels, waiters in dark suits, very often they also have a piano-player ... I personally like the place a lot, because it has a lot of %26quot;old-Vienna%26quot; charme, without beeing really oldfashioned, and they have a very nice selection of cakes and specialty-coffees for after dinner. Its not really a touristic place.

If you ask 3 people about this place, you will get 4 different answers. My parents first took me there at the age of 2 months, and since then I am a regular there, because I find the atmosphere somehow unique, but other might simply find it uniquly bad and touristic. The company has two restaurants in the old-town now, but I will only refer to the older one, located in %26quot;Wollzeile%26quot;. Its an old restaurant in a backyard of the old town, its basicly two rooms filled with long tables and benches for about 10 ppl. each, the place tneds to become fairly crowded, as there is always more people then space, and guests usually have to wait a little bit until they get seated. The kitchen is fairly simple: Whatever can be deepfried in the Vienna style, will be done, their real absolute specialty, which got them into every Vienna-guidebook are their Schnitzels, who are so big that they will be hanging over the rim of the plate, but they are so thin and crispy, that the portion is still manageable. With the meat, you can choose between a small assortment of side-dishes, such as potato-salad (the way most people in Vienna like it), or with rice or some other stuff. Figlmüller still has a big dedication to prserve the old times, so they still refuse to serve such things as Pommes frittes / Chips, Coke or Fanta or any of these American softdrinks and there is also no beer, but only wine from their own vineyards near Vienna, and a few traditional Austrian softdrinks, such as %26quot;Kracherl%26quot; a kind of white or red lemonade or homemade grape-juice. You should also be aware that even if you go there first to do a table reservation, you might still have to wait a while until you will be seated, and its a house policy that they do not reserve whole tables, but only seats on the long tables, so if there is just e.g. two or three of you, you will have to share a table witgh somebody, which can be a good chance to meet some nice people if you are lucky.

Should you decide on Figlmüller -

a much nicer atmosphere to enjoy your schnitzel- individual table dining - in various rooms on muti levels- try the newer location on Bäckerstrasse 6.

This is just around the corner from the original place.

Much less crowded as fewer people know this location .

you can usually get a table here while others wait in a line to get in the other.

Do not need to go outside to find the toilet either.
