My parents are visiting Vienna at the end of November (24th-28th) to celebrate my father%26#39;s 75th birthday. They are regular travellers and both in reasonable condition for their age. Myself and my brother are looking for a gift to tie in with their trip that we can book and pay for ideally in advance although we could just give them a recommendation and the money .
They were keen to visit the Spanish Riding School but it appears that there are no performances taking place at the end of November. I%26#39;ve been looking at dinner concert options such as the dinner and concert at Kursalon or the dinner %26amp; show at Heuriger Wolff. I also found mention on the Vienna Tourist Office site about afternoon tea or breakfast on the Wiener Riesenrad which sounds wonderful but it doesn%26#39;t look there are any packages available rather its a completely tailormade thing which may be a bit over our budget.
They are not particularly high brow although they both enjoy both classical and contemporary music.
Any recommendations would be gratefully received.

The Spanish Riding School has no performances then but it does have tours and morning workouts for young horses that they may enjoy.
Workouts Tuesday - Saturday 10- 12
look to the website
www.srs.at
look under programmes
The Kursalon is ok - dining not that great.- but is in the city center making for easy access.
The show at Wolff and food is lively and fun.
Takes a little while to get there-
If they like something more formal and Strauss - Mozart type music Kursalon may be best choice.
Also look to these sites for good music-
www.musikverein.at
www.konzerthaus.at
quality performances - you can order tickets online.
I would not recommend the giant wheel- not really thaat interesting.
an alternative the evening buffet at the Fine Arts Museum - dine at the buffet - between courses admire the collections- fantastic atmosphere and catering by a well known Vienna company.

The diner in the Fine Arts museum is gorgeous ... but I am afraid its onl held on Thursday nights, and thats out of your parents schedule ... But they are doing something similar as a brunch every Sunday between 11:00 - 15:00, its the same buffet basicly, and there is lots of sopeicla guided tours through the parts of the museum during the time., its € 44
http://www.khm.at/kunstbrunch/ the link is in german only, but it gives to contact data for it.
Another alternative would be those concerts in the Schönbrunn palace, which can be combined with a dinner in the palace-restaurant:

I have eaten in the restaurant before, and it was very good, and I know the concert hall from congresses, its a nice location, though not as beautifully decorated as some of the concert halls in the old town. I cannot say anything about the orchestra, despite the fact that they are there for years now.
Totally different idea: have you thought about hirring a personal tourguide for your parents for a day ? A little bit of luxury, instead of squeezing themselves intoa bus with many others for a day ....
Our office has used this ladies services before, and all our colleagues found her both very knowledgeable and charming

Just saw your request for a nice present for your parents. Since they like music maybe they would like to attend a church mass with the Vienna Boy%26#39;s Choir performing every Sunday morning in the Hofburg. This is the address for more info (also available in English) :
http://www.hofburgkapelle.at/
Then I would suggest a Sunday Champagne Brunch at one of the most beautiful palaces in Vienna and not far from the Hofburg.
Also info available in English at the following address:

Good Luck!

Hi,
My parents are the same age - going a week before your parents. I booked the Musikverein concert hall, where the New Years Day concert is held.
I told them this weekend and they were delighted. The room is magnificent so maybe book the second-highest priced tickets so that they are in the middle of the room and can look at it.
I booked the Sunday morning concert as I reckon it will be shorter and more relaxed.
