Train from Salzburg to Munich???

Hello. We%26#39;re trying to book advance tickets for our visit to Europe in December, and are using the www.raileurope.com site for most of our train ticket needs. But we%26#39;re having problems getting tickets from Salzburg to Munich on the evening of December 10 -- the site says seats are either sold out or we need to break up the trip to different cities to get there. It%26#39;s weird, because if we try to book two days earlier on December 8, it pulls up a full list of trains, but after that we get the error messages. Is it possible the trains are sold out already? Is it also possible to just go to the ticket office in Salzburg and buy tickets right there for the train that evening? Thanks!

The trains here can usually never be sold out - there are only very few trains you will need a reservation for in advance.

So of course it is possible to buy the tickets just before boarding the train!

I just looked it up and the website of the Austrian railway company just tells me that you should better make a reservation for this train:

from Salzburg 19:03

arrival in Munich 20:34

But this only means that you should be prepared that there is the chance that there are no seats left in the train, which does not mean you cannot board it, but you will have to stand in the aisle, if all seats are taken.

I believe that the Austrian Rail schedule will change about December 9 -10.

Normally very little change will occur but now you probsably can not get information yet for that date from the websites.

The 10th is a Monday- many trains available - about one each hour - no need to buy tickets now.. It is not a Holiday and no need for reserved seat. Just go to the station and buy your ticket at the station just before boarding-

Also check Bayern Ticket - probably leat costly way.

Be very careful purchasing tickets via Rail Europe- they do not have complete train schedules and most probably charge you a high premium for a ticket you cold buy directly at the station for regular price.

Please DO NOT buy tickets from raileurope. They are a travel agents selling tickets at very high prices!

Example, 3 adults, 2nd class, Vienna-Salzburg

RailEurope $ 231

Official fare: € 105,10 equals $ 148,91

You can buy tickets for all trains in Austria (except the Vienna-Venice), Germany and many other countries just before you go. This is the way, people do it. A seat is only guaranteed if you do a seat reservation (€ 3,50 in 2nd, free in 1st class), but usually there are no more than 5% of seats reserved. Everybody just walks to the station, buys the ticket and catches the next train...

The train is in direct competition to the car... so why should you have to buy tickets in advance?

You don%26#39;t need to book in advance IMO. We did Salzburg to Munich last month, 27 euro per person.

|||

u mean 27 euro for the bavaria ticket which is for 2 people not one ?

|||

A %26quot;Bayern-Ticket%26quot; costs 27 euros from the ticket machine and is good for 2-5 people. A %26quot;Bayern-Ticket Single%26quot; for only one person costs 19 euros from the ticket machine. Tickets are 2 euros more if bought from person at the ticket counter.

Regards, Gary
