We are travelling by train to Salzburg for the day on the first of January next year. I have been to Salzburg twice before but was wondering if anybody knew if anything would be open on New Years Day?

still looking for the answer to this question please.

Shops will be closed for sure!
But I think several restaurants and cafes will be open.
For specials on 1st of January:

Liz, our local expert for Salzburg will be able to tell you more for sure.

Most shops should be closed- tourist sites mostly open- public transport system operates but under a slightly reduced schedule.
Many restaurants open-
thus you will have no trouble finding things to do.

thank you. I am taking my mum there for the day after ranting about the place and I was worried that there would be nothing open. As long as she can see how beautiful the city is and there is somewhere to eat we will be happy. Will there be taxis running from the train station into the town if it is snowing/raining or too cold to walk???? Hopefully we will be able to enjoy the walk.

Taxis will be available, right outside the train station. Have a great trip.
Liz.
