October in Vienna

My wife and I are taking our first trip to Vienna from Oct 19-28. We have traveled but not to Austria. We are in 50s and she speaks some German. We would like to do some walking tours and would love to find a reasonable guide as well as get some insight to reasonable opera and symphony tickets. We are staying at Alpha Hotel. Any recommendations? Thanks.

If you %26quot;google%26quot; Frommers Vienna Walking Tours it will take you to the Frommers site where they lay out three walking (self guided) tours that we found to be useful.

Thanks very much! I hope you are enjoying your trip. How is the weather? Any great experiences you want to share? We love to try new things!

I am sure you will enjoy Vienna as the weather is a beautiful %26quot;Indian Summer%26quot; right now. For tips about Vienna go to www.wien.info, here you will find out everything about Vienna in English. If you enjoy wine don%26#39;t miss the wine taverns or Heurige. For concert tickets you can try www.hofburgkapelle.at for tickets to the Vienna Boy%26#39;s Choir every Sunday morning. Also just for info Friday, October 26th is the Austrian National Day so the stores will be closed and the city will be very quiet. Good luck!

Just remembered something else which you might enjoy. The fine arts museum (Kunsthistorisches Museum) has an evening buffet every Thursday night and a Sunday brunch. Very good food from one of the best caterers in Vienna plus you can tour the museum at the same time. Go to www.gerstner.at for more info or reservations or to www.khm.at for more info on the museum. Enjoy!

Thanks Maria! Will keep you posted!
