Ideas for itinerary

Having had a great time, driving on the German %26#39; Alpine Road %26#39; and around Bavaria, in 2006; we thought we would venture into Austria next year. We want to retrace some of our steps, from 2006, down to Hohenschwangau and then cross into Austria. So, we are looking for ideas for a leisurely route, taking about 8 days, through the Ausrian Alps, with stopovers, eventually landing back in Munich.

We are looking to go around mid June.

This is a very general question you posted here as there are so many different beautfiul areas in Austria - maybe you could tell a bit more about your preferences:

Would you like to visit cities or rural areas?

Would you like to stay in the really high mountains?

In the wine country?

In the lake area?

etc. ...

We just did a trip like this in September; our plan was hiking, and lots of it! Over three weeks, we went in a circle, by train (and bus in the Oetztal): with Munich as our jumping off point, we went to Garmisch-Partenkirchen / Mittenwald / Imst / Soelden %26amp; Vent / Kitzbuhel, then, having had enough hiking, we spent four days in Salzburg, then two in the Munich area before heading home. Most of them were three or four day stays. Beautiful country - we enjoyed it immensely!
