Train confusion

I%26#39;ve read all the topics regarding trains and hope someone can clarity for me whether the european rail pass is also the Bayern. We are planning to go to from Salzburg to Munich, Dachau, Nurenberg and Bayreuth. Two adults in first class (5 days of travel in 2 months) quoted at $650 USD. Is this reasonable and the most flexible? Is there an other alternative that I am not understanding? Thanks

I can%26#39;t help regarding the various rail passes (I%26#39;m sure someone else can) but I%26#39;d just like to say that there is no need to travel first class. Standard class is great, so that at least would save you some money.

Well, if you only use local transport (Bus, Tram, U-Bahn, S-Bahn, RB, RE, IRE) you can buy the Bayern Ticket for € 27 (up to 5 people, valid after Mon-Fri after 9 am, Sat-Sun all day long, until 3 am next day).

Have a look at German railways website, you can also find fares and more info on the Bayern Ticket there... 2nd class is absolutely fine!

%26gt;Is this reasonable and the most flexible?

Surely not.

The Bayern-Ticket was explained before, but even with normal point to point tickets you will be far, far better off.

I agree that in 99% of all cases 1st class is just a waste of money, and in the 1% you can just upgrade a single ticket for the price difference. (Not possible with a Bayern-Ticket)

Bayern-Ticket is also only valid for slower local trains (RE, RB, S) and urban trnasportation in Munich and Nuremberg

Just one more note on the Bayern-Ticket. When you are in Salzburg, you can buy it at the %26quot;DB%26quot; ticket machine, not the Austrian ( %26quot;ÖBB%26quot;) machines. Print your name on the ticket where it says %26quot;Blockshrift%26quot; to save being gently reminded by the conductor. The Bayern-Ticket is wonderful way to inexpensively travel in southern Germany.

The cost of a 5-day 1st class Germany Rail Twin Pass for 2 travelers is $568.

For your proposed itinerary, it would definitely be cheaper to buy 1st or 2nd class point-to-point tickets and/or the Bayern-Ticket.

As an example, up to 5 people can travel round-trip from the center of Munich to the Dachau Memorial site on the local S-Bahn trains and a bus using a MVV XXL zone Partner-Tageskarte which costs 11.80 €.

You can use the DB website to research train schedules and determine fares. Add the cost of p2p tickets and compare with the cost of a rail pass.
