Based in Innsbruck

We will be spending three days in Munich then onto Salzburg for three days before being based in Innsbruck for a week of motorcycling in the Alps. Our evenings will be free as well as whatever days we don%26#39;t feel like riding, though I%26#39;m sure we will ride the majority of the week leaving only weekends for day exploration. What are the must sees? Also after our week in Innsbruck we are moving on to Lucerne any suggestions on the best way to get there or what we shouldn%26#39;t miss in the other cities. Any help is appreciated this is our first Eurotrip. We enjoy music, relaxation, good food and great drinks.

Innsbruck is a beautiful town in the Alps and you will be able to enjoy stunning views of the mountains.

I would definitely explore the Old City of Innsbruck. That is where all the most historic sites are. Having spent a lot of time in Munich and Salzburg, we much prefer them to Innsbruck. We were very disappointed in Innsbruck. We felt it not the prettiest of places although it is in good location to the ski areas, etc.

A tour of the palace is nice. It%26#39;s a self guided tour. They also have a wonderful folk museum that is very interesting but don%26#39;t know if either of these are open in the evening - but probably on Saturday. There are a lot of good restaurants and we enjoyed the restaurant at the Golden Dachel very much.

You might enjoy the ride to Seefeld, Austria, about a half hour fom Innsbruck. It%26#39;s a beautiful resort town with lots of great restaurants and there is even a casino.

it is true that Innsbruck is more about the location with the view of the high mountains, but it is still a really cute town with a nice historical city center.

To enjoy the view you should try these places:

Hi,

Although Innsbruck was dissapointing to us, the area is great. For a free day or evening, check out Hall in Tirol, 6 miles east of Innsbruck. Beautiful old town. For a great dinner experience, try the Burg Tavern in Burg Hasseg, right by the Inn river. Sterzing/Vipitino, Italy is also just 40 min. from Innsbruck. Nice small old town. A gorgeous old town (our favorite) is Brixen/Bressanone. Mittenwald, Germany is also 45 min. away. Probably the prettiest Bavarian village we%26#39;ve been to.

To be the voice of optimism here I%26#39;ve done extensive travelling over Europe (and like several of the posters here have spent a significant amount of time in both Salzburg and Munich having done a semester abroad just outside of Munich sometime back) and I really loved Innsbruck. Yes, the historical center is the highlight. Expect that when you%26#39;re there to take your pace slow. Meander around, stretch out your time and enjoy the atmosphere. There are many %26quot;small attractions%26quot; around Innsbruck that have more character than many huge tourist attractions (botanical garden and folk art museum among them, but there%26#39;s plenty of others!) I%26#39;m not sure exactly what kind of %26quot;music%26quot; you%26#39;re looking for but if you%26#39;re at all interested in classical there are often concerts about town, there%26#39;s also a great theatre just a few steps outside of aldstadt so you could catch a show (and I recommend that you do!) if you%26#39;re so inclined. The casual restraunts/bars lining the street next to the golden roof are all friendly with in my experience quite good, if casual food. If you%26#39;re there when the weather is nice plop yourself down at the outdoor tables at the establishment of your choosing and have a slow dinner and drinks while you recount your day. they don%26#39;t mind lingering.

Two weekend days is a perfect amount of time to wander around Innsbruck I think, with your other weekend, like others have suggested, a short trip to Hall and some other environs would be a good choice.

Enjoy your first eurotrip! I just got back (Innsbruck was on the list!) and was travelling with my mother, who was, like you, on her first eurotrip and loved every moment :)
