Heiligenkreutz

I would like to visit Heiligenkreutz abbey, nr. Mayerling, which I found closed in a very distant past. I am staying in Vienna, Graben area, for an extended weekend this week and would prefer to go by public transport rather than a guided tour. I read somewhere on the net that bus 365 goes there, but I am not sure about the information and wouldn%26#39;t know where to board, or if the Abbey is open to visitors etc.

Can anybody help?

Here is a link to Stift Heiligenkreuz

In English:

stift-heiligenkreuz.org/English.kinder-und-j…

Or a little bit in Italian:

stift-heiligenkreuz.org/Italiano.179.0.html

You would have to take a commuter train from Viennas Südbahnhof to %26quot;Mödling%26quot; (many trains going, at least every 30 min.) and from the train-station there bus 365 goes every hour at XX:33 to %26quot;Heiligenkreuz - Stift%26quot;, total travelling time would be around 1 hour or a bit more, tickets should be between € 4-6 !

An easy transfer by public transport - several alternatives depending on the time you travel

for schedules and good information on boarding locations and transfers train and bus numbers etc.

thanks a lot. Do you actually buy one ticket (train+ bus) or do you do that separately? Do I get it right that I have to take the underground to suedtyrolerplatz ( I am staying nr. Stephansplatz) then walk to the Suedbanhof etc.?

Yes, you can buy your ticket for the whole journey on Stefansplatz, and there is also a public-transport information office there, were you can ask about your travel plans again, if you are unsure. And from there you then take the underground U1 to Südtirolerplatz and take a little walk to Südbahnhof, you are right about that !

Many of the trains to Mödling are Schnellbahn trains and stop at the underground Schnellbahn station at Südtirolerplatz (different platforms to the U1) which would mean there is no need to walk to the Südbahnhof. A timetable check would give you the times. Use Vertical%26#39;s oebb.at link above and look for trains from %26quot;Wien%26quot; to %26quot;Moedling Bahnhof%26quot; on the date you%26#39;re thinking of. The Schnellbahn trains are those with a white letter S in a blue circle.

On your way out (or back) it may be worth spending an hour or two exploring Mödling which is a charming town with a mediaeval centre and a lovely setting on the edge of the Vienna Woods.
