Seat Reservations Vienna-Salzburg-Vienna

I%26#39;m planning on traveling from Vienna to Salzburg on 5 Dec on an ealy morning train. I will be returning to Vienna on 6 Dec on a train around 2:05pm. How can I reserve actual seat reservations on both of these trains. I understand the Salzburg - Vienna trains come from Munich and can be quite crowded.

Thank you.

On request, ÖBB will make seat reservations. There are, however, no reductions for the price of a seat ticket for a child.

Information on for which trains seats can or must be reserved is contained in the schedules. The reserved seats are specifically marked by ÖBB.

Seat tickets are issued for any reserved seats. These are only valid for the train and on the day, for which they were issued and only in connection with a ticket valid for the respective train, class and reserved route.

Prices

Price of a seat ticket per seat 3,.50 EUR

Reservation fee for group travellers on international services per seat 1,- EUR

Reservation fee for one seat in the business compartment 15,- EUR

Price of a dog ticket 2,90 EUR

With the purchase of the seat ticket your are entitled for the seat marked on the seat ticket. This entitlement, however, expires, if the seat is not taken within 15 minutes after departure of the train from the station, from which the reservation was made.

Orders for seat reservations can be made at the earliest three months prior to the departure date up to closing of bookings by all ticket counters. Any amount paid for reserved seats not taken is forfeited.

Personally, I don%26#39;t think you need seat reservations. On Friday afternoons and weekends some trains are very full, but you are travelling in the middle of the week. If you get to the Westbahnhof or the Salzburg Hbf well in advance of the departure, you should be fine. And early December is not a vacation period.

Also, only some of the EC (Euro-city) trains from Salzburg to Vienna come from Munich. Every hour there is an Austrian IC train from Salzburg to Vienna, with many of them starting in Salzburg. A few others mainly come from Bregenz and Innsbruck and continue to Vienna.

One thing I have learned when I made reservations, is that I felt locked into that particular train. So, if my plans changed by half an hour or even an hour (especially arriving earlier at the train station), then I took an earlier train and threw away that reservation.

Thank you for your reassuring advice. I won%26#39;t worry about it now. I agree, I%26#39;d rather not be locked into a reservation I may not use.

A reservation is only advisable if you are a large group and want to sit together...

Trains offer hundreds of seats, nobody does a seat reservation...
