winter vacation

My husband and me are planning a week of winter vacation. We thought of the Salzkammergut as a good region as we are non skiers and only want the winter scenery and activities (snowshoe walking, sleigh rides etc.) Also we are not renting a car this time because we are not used to winter driving. Any suggestions which is the best town village in the area to be in terms of transport and winter activities? What%26#39;s the public transport like in the area? Any links to that?

There are several possibilities:

St. Wolfgang - a cute, little village located at the lake Wolfgangsee. Really pittoresque, but a bit remote:

My hotel recommendation would be the %26quot;Landhaus zu Appesbach%26quot;, which is awesome and located right at the lakeside:

Another option:

The region of Lake Fuschl, which is closer to Salzburg:

Hotel recommendation is the Hotel Schloss (Castle) Fuschl:

thanks for your quick response. As I have since been reading in the forums I saw that another option many people go to is Seefeld in the Tirol. What do you think as opposed to the Salzkammergut area? I understand it%26#39;s maybe better in terms of sure snow. Take into consideration that we are a week without a car so we need to be in a place with activities for non skiers and possibly easy public transport to visit other places too during the day.

As I have never been to Seefeld I cannot comment on it!

Maybe Zell am See could be another option too:

http://www.zellamsee.com/

Its location is very nice at a lake and it is a small town that offers more distraction than a small village.

There are also good connections by train - for example for a day trip to Salzburg:

oebb.at/vip8/…index.jsp

There is a direct train connection to Salzburg which will take you 1:38 hours.

To Kitzbuehel: 45 minutes

To Innsbruck: 1:53 hours

Another option could be, staying just outside Salzburg, maybe at the hotel Friesacher:

http://www.hotelfriesacher.com/en/

So you could conveniently go in/out of the city:

bus Line 25 of the Salzburg city buses connects the Friesacher hotel every 20 minutes with the city of Salzburg and the main station. You can buy a ticket directly from the bus conductor or at a machine, the stop at Anif is called “Anif, Friesacher”.

And you could visit the Salzkammergut or/and Zell am see for a daytrip.
