What should we expect the weather to be like in a couple of weeks from now.We would like to take sound of music tour. eagles nest tour and go to hohensalzburg fortress. My daughter is in her seventh year of studing opera performance and of course we are planning a trip to statsoperahouse. any other suggestions would be appreciated thanks jim

Dear Jim

If you book tours in advance, on line, I think they%26#39;re a bit cheaper, but I%26#39;m not entirely sure. We%26#39;ve always dealt with these companies:

Polzer Ticket Office

office@polzer.com

It%26#39;s always impossible to second guess the weather in Salzburg. It varies so much. At the moment it%26#39;s sunny and reasonably warm (according to my friend there). You can watch the webcams:

The fortress is well worth a visit and you can just reach it on foot as it sits above the old city. The funicular railway takes only thirty seconds to reach the top or you can walk up but it is a very steep walk. We usually walk down as we like to take in the views as we descend. When you get up there be sure to go to the south side to catch the views of the mountains. There is a lovely cafe on the south side. As you come out of the funicular turn right and it is on your right. It has an outdoor terrace too but it might be a little cold for that now.

Others will be able to advise you better on the Vienna leg of your trip but I will say that Schonbrunn Palace is well worth a visit. We found it breathtaking. The grounds are so extensive I don%26#39;t think we saw a tenth of what there was to see, on our visit. It%26#39;s easily reached via the U-bahn.

Have a good trip.

Liz.

Salzburg just go...you will love it. Affordable hotel near old town....%26quot;Star Inn%26quot; I think...nice inside. Should be cold and maybe damp...it%26#39;s on the edge of the Alps........

Jin- we just returned yesterday from Austria and Switzerland- Loved Austria. See my report I just posted

we did see the opera house (only from outside) we%26#39;re more into museums of art. - We did see the church from the sound of music in Monsee which is a fantastic lake town w ith great views when sitting near the lake and the scene from Mirabell Gdns in Salzburg.

I personally liked Austria better then SWitzerland as far as things to do but Switzerland does have lovely landscapes

We had great weather-only needed a lite jacket in Austria- In Switzerland we did need heavier clothing
