romantic fantasy of snow and old inn

We will go anywhere anytime in Europe to fulfill the fantasy of an old old inn with fireplace in a snow setting with possibiltiy of horse drawn sleds, the less %26quot;touristy%26quot; the better, and middle price range. We live in California and miss snow!! Namas of specific inns or towns would be nice.

Maybe you would like the village of Alpbach in the Tyrol:

Unfortunately all the places that you describe have unfortunately by their very nature become touristy and therefore out of the middle price range.

Aside from Scandinavia you could try the obvious Switzerland or Austria but I think I know of somewhere

- The Harz mountains in Germany around the town of Wernigerode.

- The Transylvania region of Romania would be a good bet - Brasov or Sibiu areas - plenty of horse drawn sledges and atmosphere.

- Zakopane in Poland is definitely middle/low price range and has some beautiful wooden hotels to stay in - Google it and take a look. The food is amazing there, as are the prices. We stayed in a wooden villa there that would match all your criteria, but I just can%26#39;t remember what it was called - I would have to do a bit of searching.

- Also the other side of the border is Slovakia - spectacular mountains (the same as in Poland, obviously, but they look better) but less spectacular accommodation than the Polish side.

You would have to fly to Krakow and hire a car for both of the above.

A bit further afield is Russia, but probably out of your price range.

As for snow, there is no guarantee of that any more! Global warming has hit Europe in a big way, but there should be some in the above places.

Hope this helps.

Have fun!

try this one:

the actual web page (German) is here: http://www.jdietzsch.de/berger/index2.php

we just came back from a fall stay there, snow only at the peaks, but by Christmas, there will be snow. the place is an a deep valley but at 1020m elevation. There is the old inn with rooms and then there is at least one chalet; the other two are for seminar bookings. The place is neat and clean, not touristy and authentic.

The food is excellent and more than most can handle - regional cuisine, hearty Austrian.

There should be no problems for the innkeeper to arrange sleigh-rides and more. Prices are very reasonable. Did not see a fireplace, but do you know a Kachelofen? And the view is simply spectacular!

Need more info, send me a PM.
