Can I buy a Austria National Rail Pass in Vienna ?

Today is Saturday and I am leaving for Vienna tomorrow Sunday night. I am interested in buying an Austrian National Rail Pass but seems to be impossible to get it before I leave. Can I buy one in Vienna when I arrive ?

Thanks

I just looked it up on the website of the Austrian Railway comany - OEBB - where they say that the Austrian Railpass can be purchased only by citizens outside europe at a travel agency in overseas.

The Austrian Railpass will be validated by the train conductor during your travel to austria or at the ÖBB-station travel agencies.

So you have to buy it at home!

No, you can%26#39;t buy them in Austria. But often, point-to-point tickets are cheaper than rail passes.

Buy your tickets from the train station (ticket window or ticket counter). If your ticket is for more than 100 km, you can also make as many stops in between as you want... so if you travel Vienna-Innsbruck, no problem to stop in Salzburg for some days... and that saves you money.

You can find fares here:

Small discount from the 2nd passenger on (1-Plus-Ticket). If you travel within one Bundesland (county), you%26#39;ll usually get cheaper fares and only need one ticket for all means of transport... for example bus to train station, train to destination, bus in destination town...

Thanks to RobbiAUSTRIA and Ulrike73 for your very quick reply. I went to Vienna last week. Guess what, yes, you can buy an Austrian Rail Pass in Austria. I went to Westbahnhof (Western Railway Station) and bought the pass with my Canadian passport at the same price (98 Euro for 3 days) as I would have to pay in Canada. However, I do not think I could do the same for Eurail pass for multiple countries.

Okay, learned something new! Could you tell me the name of the ticket?

Actually, is it just me who finds it strange that a company, to whose basic funding and existence I contribute with my dear (tax)money has tickets on offer that I cannot buy but only people from somewhere else ....... ? :-)

Confused greets, Fritz
