New Year's Trip

Hoping to plan a romantic and relaxing short break with my girlfriend over New Year%26#39;s eve, preferably somewhere with a nice %26quot;winter atmosphere%26quot;. Vienna seems like to it might be a good option.

Would anyone recommend it for a couple at that time, or have any suggestions on how to celebrate a romantic New Year there? It seems that the opera is traditionally very popular at the time, but are there any interesting alternatives?

Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful information, I%26#39;ll take a look.

A possible alternative is for us to go Dec 27th-30th. Presumably Vienna is relatively quiet at that time, but do most restaurants %26amp; shops open over that period?

Thanks again for the advice!

|||

Its actually not that quiet, because many locals have the days off and will storm the town, so vereything will b eopen regarding shops, restaurants ... only some offices and public administration are closed !

Thanks fritz1978. It seems that it might be a good time to take a relaxing holiday in Vienna, and flight/hotel choices are considerably better for those days. However, reading the links posted about about New Year%26#39;s, I can%26#39;t help but feel that we might miss out by leaving on the 30th!

If you want %26quot;quiet%26quot; then avoid Vienna on New Year%26#39;s Eve, but if you want to enjoy one of the best New Year%26#39;s Celebrations in the world then don%26#39;t miss it!

Fritz and you will be interested to know that the last time we were in Vienna on New Year%26#39;s we went to an Irish bar at a quarter to one in the morning and %26quot;persuaded%26quot; them to celebrate the New Year all over again at 01:00 as it was midnight in Dublin!

Thanks Norman, I%26#39;ll have to look that one up!
