I am in the process of booking a 5 day break for my parents to Vienna this November for there 30th Wedding Anniversary. They are flying with Ryanair into Bratislava. I have been recommended a 2 night stay in Bratislava and 3 nights in Vienna. My parents now instruct me that they would like to see %26#39;mountains and chalets - Sound of Music style%26#39;. Is this possible from Vienna? Any suggestions of places to visit, accomodation or transport will be much appreciated. Many thanks.

First of all, the historic city center of Bratislava is really small and you will be able to see everthing within half a day, so I would recommend staying in Bratislava for just 1 night - maybe the last night before leaving to avoid any hassle before departure.
After the arrival I would directly head to Vienna and stay there for at least 2 nights.

Maybe your parents would like to go to Vienna by fast boat as it is a really nice trip:

Or opt for it on theit way back to Bratislava - it is convenient as it commutes between the historic city centers of the two cities.
After 2 nights in Vienna I would go to Salzburg and stay there for one night.

They could leave with an early morning train from the station Vienna Westbahnhof to Salzburg (duration about 2:40 hours) and explore the city during the day.

On the next day they could join a %26quot;Sound of music%26quot; or some other tour which would bring them into the famous and awesome Salzkammergut area with its mountains, lakes and beautiful traditional villages.

Then they could take an evening train back and stay another night in Vienna, before leaving for Bratislava the next day.
