Salzkammergut Hallstatter See-worth it?

Hello! We are wondering if Hallstatter See (Salzkammergut Hallstatt) is a must-see. We%26#39;ll be in Salzburg in late Nov. for 2 nights.

If it%26#39;s worth the trip, should we go on a day trip or should we drop by there on the way to Vienna? We%26#39;ll be travelling by train. Thanks a lot!

Hallstatt is truly beautiful and well worth a visit but you should only really go if the weather is good. I%26#39;ve been twice - once on a rainy day, when we couldn%26#39;t see the mountains at all, and another time when it was clear blue skies. In late November there might be a Christmas market there, but I don%26#39;t know for sure.

I don%26#39;t quite know how you%26#39;d drop into Hallstatt on your way to Vienna but perhaps others can advise you on that.
