Next May

Visiting Vienna in may for around 4 nights with my sister.

Where can we visit from Vienna by train or bus? We like to do a bit of sightseeing, some shopping, some eating and drinking, and just soaking up the atmosphere of the places we visit. Visiting by train, the longest journey would be not much more than 2 hours.

Could we visit/is it worthwhile going to Bratislava?

You could go to Salzburg with the fastest train connection of 2:36 hours:

For going to Bratislava i would opt for the fast boat - Bratislava is not very spectacular, but with the boat trip it offers a nice day trip:
