Niederau - Transport from & to Salzburg airport

Hi

Have a holiday booked over New Year and have been quoted horrific prices for both airport taxi transfer %26amp; car hire.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for Bus or train service that would get me to Niederau or as near as possible so the final distance could be done by taxi.

Any help would be appreciated.

I used to rep in Niederau - where are you staying?

There are a couple of methods of getting there:

1) Take the bus from the airport to the train station (every 10 minutes) - takes about 20 minutes. You then need to take a train from Salzburg to Worgl - it was about €55 return in 2005 so probably gone up now (takes c2hours - goes via Germany as can%26#39;t go over the mountains!). Checkout the OEBB website - it has an option to translate into English.

From Worgl you can either get a bus up the valley or a taxi (about €20 one way I recall). There should be some at the station, otherwise I used to use a company based in Oberau called Margreiter.

2) If you arrive on a Saturday, you will be greeted by an army of Thompson/Crystal/Inghams etc.. reps. They all have buses going to Niederau (albeit with stops). These days the tour operators do not wait until the buses are full (because guests complain) so there are often empty seats. NB that the early morning flights are normally gatwick/manchester and will be busy so you may have to wait until later on. This should cost c€25/30 per head (plus it%26#39;s courtesy to tip the driver).

3) Rent a car.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that. When I first lookedat car hire i was quoted £600+!!! But then had a look on last minute %26amp; found it much cheaper - £120. So have now booked that.

We are staying at Harfenwirt. Has some pretty good reviews. Do you know it?

Any bars/restaurants you%26#39;d reccommend? We are there for New Year so want to find somewhere to celebrate :) Will have a quick look around on our first day Sat 29th Dec - I%26#39;m guessing we might have to book/buy tickets for most places on NY eve?
