Hello everyone. I just wanted to say that I got back from Salzburg yesterday and that I LOVED it. Absolutely loved it. We did a tour thru Panoramic (which I HIGHLY recommend, our tour guide was so friendly and knowledgeable) in which we went to the Bavarian Alps and the salt mines. I have never seen anything so beautiful, and we could even see the Eagle%26#39;s Nest from the bottom of the mountain, which I was happy about since that tour was closed for the winter. We also hiked all the way up to the Fortress (Festung, I believe) of Salzburg and that enormous hike was WELL worth it and the 5 euro entrance fee...the scenery and the incredible view of all of salzburg and the ALPS was just incredible. My camera did not accurately capture the blueness of the sky, the whiteness of the clouds, or the enormity of the mountains. Has anyone ever been to Berchtesgaden? That was where the tour took us into Germany, a VERY charming and idyllic little town where I had the BEST homemade apple strudel and hot chocolate. It was amazing. Also, before my plane left yesterday, I took LizR%26#39;s advice (much love to Liz!) and took the #25 bus to Hellbrunn to see some more christmas markets and the Gazebo from SoM. The handmade Austrian Christmas Ornaments are to die for. Even though every weather site was calling for rain, it only drizzled a little bit on the last day! I thought the weather was lovely!
I guess what I am trying to say is that...everyone should go to Salzburg. [: I know I will try to go back there in the future, and to Germany as well. I am in fact German by nationality...it%26#39;s weird to explain but I felt like for some reason I really fit in there. All the people in the Christmas markets are SO friendly and tons of them speak English so I felt very welcome. [:

Hello, Meghan,
I%26#39;m so thrilled that you enjoyed your trip so much and thank you for your kind comments. It%26#39;s wonderful to know that these little bits of advice can give pleasure. I have been to Berchtesgaden a few times and love the area very much. There is a road called Rossfeldstrasse which winds round a mountain and gives 360 degree views which include Berchtesgaden and the surrounding mountains. We always drive up there at least once during a visit.
I hope it won%26#39;t be too long before you can return to Salzburg. Perhaps a trip in the summer so that you can enjoy trips into the mountains even more.
Best wishes,
Liz.
