Arriving in Vienna on a Sunday / getting around Vienna

Hi

I%26#39;m going to be arriving in Vienna early on Sunday as part of a tour around eastern Europe (with Insight), however the tour doesn%26#39;t start until Monday so we%26#39;ll have all Sunday to ourselves. But I%26#39;ve heard the shops will be closed.

Is there anything we can do on the Sunday, and is Vienna large enough that we need to take transport to get around, if so is there a day pass that can be bought or are individual tickets better? (We%26#39;ll be staying downtown in the Hilton).

Thanks

Firstly be certain of the location of your Hilton Hotel.

( on the Danube and not really convenient ) , Hilton Plaza ( on the Ringstrasse ) and Hilton Stadtpark.

Much to see and do in Vienna on a Sunday - museums, major tourist sights such as Hofburg Palace , Schönbrunn Palace, Belvedere and much more open - many restaurants to choose.

If you are at the Hilton Danube a public transport card is essential to reach most things.

You can walk from the other 2 hotels to many things - but i would still recommend a 24 hour card at 5,70 euro a bargain. and saves you time and effort . Essential too if you wish to visit Schönbrunn Palace.

look to the transport website- you can now order tickets on line too.

I would recommend taking the strassenbahn # 1 or # 2 around the Ringstrasse before beginning sightseeing to acquaint yourself with the city. These lines run on the Ringstrass and will pass many nice sights and parks . It just makes a big circle and returns you to your starting place.

Perhaps the Hofburg Palace and nearby sights in the samr complex like the Treasury is a good place to start your sightseeing.

look to the Vienna tourist website for more info
