Hello We are traveling to Germany and Austria next week, Nov 7th. The following week we will be in Salzburg, I have been looking for accommodation in Salzburg and considering day trip to the lake district, St. Wolfgang. Is this a good time of year to visit or should we do other things? We are a family of nine - parents with three children and both sets of grandparents. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

Hello, I would recommend that you find a hotel in the old city. I certainly don%26#39;t recommend you stay near the railway station. There are many hotels in that area but it%26#39;s not a good part of town, and a long way from tourist sights.
Hotel Elefant is a nice hotel right in the centre of the old city. It%26#39;s in a quiet lane, just round the corner from Mozart%26#39;s birthplace:

Hotel Zur Goldene Ente is also right in the centre:

A little more expensive is Hotel Goldener Hirsch:

A more reasonably priced hotel is Hotel Weisse Taube:

Just over the river, on Linzergasse, is Hotel Stadtkrug. I have read some good reviews of this hotel:

All these hotels would place you very conveniently for the tourist attractions.
Just a little further away, not far from Mirabelgarten, but in a slightly less nice part of town is Hotel Marcus Sittikus:

The Salzburg lake district is very easily reached from Salzburg and there are a number of tours you could take. Make enquiries at the tourist office in Mozartplatz when you arrive.
Have a great trip.
Liz.
