Salzburg for Euro 2008 - the best location in the city??

Hi there, we%26#39;ve already booked most of our trip and are looking for any information you can provide for the following questions; (Thanks in advance!)

We are due to arrive by train from Klagenfurt on the 10th of June and then depart on the 12th, again by train, to Vienna.

Can you recommend a suitable location or even better, a hotel, for 6 adults? Happy to consider any type of room, i.e. twin, triple or apartment etc.

I think that as we%26#39;re traveling by train, a location with a direct line or simple transfer to the train station would be the main consideration and not too far from the action and in particular, the Fans Area!!!

For budget and comfort, not too fussy but ideally no more than about €350 per night for the 6 of us (don%26#39;t know if that%26#39;s realistic or not!)

Any other suggestions regarding things to see and do, would be most welcome and see you next year!!!

Anyone able to help, please????

Hello, DeeRus

I think the problem is your preferred room rate which for June is not really realistic. The cheaper properties tend to be outside the city and you%26#39;re wanting to be central. An apartment for just two nights is not realistic as companies are looking to rent them for one or two weeks so some budget accommodation seems the best option. The area around the train station has cheaper prices but it%26#39;s not a good area of town (at all)! But if you don%26#39;t mind that just for two nights you could look at some of the hotels there. Salzburg is a small city so wherever you stay you can get to the train station within a short space of time. All the buses go to the main bus station which is right opposite the train station.

Here are a few that might be helpful:

Hotel Hohenstauffen. This has family rooms:

Theaterhotel Cordial:

Put this hotel into Google. The link was too long for me to post here.

I%26#39;m not exactly sure yet where the fan sites will be but usually, when there%26#39;s a big sporting fixture, there is a huge screen and seating in Residenzplatz in the old city. The hotels I%26#39;ve mentioned above are between a 10 and 30 minute walk from there but the old city centre hotels would be much more expensive. There are loads of very efficient and cheap buses in Salzburg so you can get around very easily.

Hope some of this helps.

That%26#39;s great - I really appreciate your suggestions and will have a look at them now.

I know what you mean about areas around train stations - it%26#39;s the same in most cities!!!
