Dear Fritz and Vertical ,
I%26#39;ll be in Vienna from 6 to 12 Dec. I%26#39;ve already booked for Grafin Maritza and %26quot;La Traviata%26quot;(the 8th) but unfortunately I did not get good seats, 3rd row Gallerie in Maritza and Kategorie E in the State Opera , do you think I%26#39;ll enjoy the performances?
I read in previous posts your suggestions concerning the Art %26amp; Pleasure in Kunsthistorische Museum, I am arriving on Thursday afternoon so I will not be able to go on the same day and I am thinking to do it on Sunday(brunch) is it equal to the dinner or just to visit the Museum and have a coffee any other day?
Also, any suggestions for worthy concerts or events? Not tourist ones.I am thinking of the concert in Lichtenstein Museum and the concert in Stephandom in the evening. Of course I cannot include all in one day so, please, I would like an evaluation and suggestion and maybe a proposition for a cultural and culinary program.
I%26#39;ve been in Austria many times before, mostly Salzburgerland.
I explored Vienna for more than a week but almost 25 years ago and another time for 1 1/2 day only, 4 or 5 years later, so I will need to renew my visit, don%26#39;t you think? Also my companion has never been in Vienna, so any suggestion for the whole stay will be welcomed.
Many Thanks.

...Also, for the Art %26amp; Pleasure brunch, must I book in advance long before through internet or one or two days before, upon arrival to Vienna?
Thanks again.

Many changes in Vienna in 25 years , but fortunately the quality music presented remains almost the same. Take a ride on the streetcar #1 or 2 to see Vienna via the Ringstrasse - much the same as before.
Perhaps stop at Cafe Landtmann for a warm drink and pastry- this may be full due to tourists- a good alternative Cafe Schwarzenberg on Schwarzenbergplatz on the Ringstrasse too.
I have always liked Grafin Mariza - this music by Kalman hopefully remains in your head.
It is a nice mix including some gypsy themes - that is similar to some sound in other of his operettas.
A good cast - Helga Papouschek is married to one of the ensemble but deserves her place.
A small part by one of my old favorites Josef Forstner - you willquickly recognize him by mostly bald head and smaller statue- but a good person for roles at the Volksoper and a friendly man away from the stage.
No really bad seat at the Volksoper - it is not an extra large venue.
good sound most everywhere. Program will provide synopsis in various languages. Subtitles in english .
The State Opera- fantastic venue- perfect Opera- good sound everywhere - but some seats less than great - still you should be OK. You can reserve a table for use during the pause. Simply visit the Buffet before the start of the Opera - give them your menu request - they prepare the table for your visit- nice to watch the passing throngs - many tourists are not aware of this nice service.
I recommend an afternoon at Schönbrunn for a tour of the Palace, and of course some time at the Christmas Market This is really a nice time there.
I really like the Liechtenstein Palace - art galleries, music on Sundays- usually about 2 PM. in a perfect setting.
Especially look at the frescos in the stairways and other places- very beautiful.
If you plan the Sunday Brunch- probably best to reserve only due to these busy pre Christmas- but this takes much valuable time- only you can decide if you wish this. But this will be at times for the Liechenstein- personally I would do the liechtenstein sunday and the Kunsthistorisches another dday.
Definitely visit the Christmas market too in front of the Museum.

for more information.
Things often overlooked by tourists and very interesting - The Treasury - Schatzkammer in the Hofburg Complex- royal crowns, jewels, vestments Holy Roman articles.
and the Kaisergruft- burial place of the royals- interesting insight on each member as shown by their caskets.
Also look for concerts in the Augustiner Church in the Hofburg and the Minoriten Church near to the Hofburg. I think thir music generally better than at Stephansdom- my opinion.

Thank you Vertical. Such a detailed report!

Not much to add to you, vertical, just a short notice on the brunch or dinner question in the Kunsthistorisches Museum:
Yes, it is the same buffet from %26quot;GERSTNER%26quot; at both events, the only differences are that normally, the nuseum is more crowded on Sunday morning with %26quot;normal%26quot; visitors, whereas it normally emptys out a little faster during the Thursday evening sessions. Also, there are more families and bigger groups of friends there on Sunday, whereas on Thursday, its more couples and smaller tables. For the rest, its an event that I can highly recommend, the gerstner buffet is worth every sin, especially the desserts.
Here is the contact page of Gerstner, I would simply try to mail them for a reservation or give them a ring, I don´t think you have to go there personally:

Whatever you do, enjoy your stay !

Thank you Fritz,
I%26#39;d like very much to enjoy Art and taste gestner%26#39;s delicacies, but on the other side I don%26#39;t like crowded places and children running and playing around, this is an event to enjoy with tranquility ,taking your time and unfortunately I will not be there on a Thursday. Anyway, I%26#39;ll think about, we will see.
Thank you again both of you.
