We are thinking about these resorts. I have heard that the snow is more reliable in Mayrhofen. We are first time skiers so any advice is appreciated. LB

These are two completely different towns - depends on your Likes and dislikes-
Alpbach --much smaller - a picture perfect village with strict controls on types of structures- voted one time the most beautiful village in Austria- much more quiet
Limited shopping and night life - most things revolve around your hotel.
Natural snow conditions would be similar - Mayrhofen has much more snow making and thus better skiing opportunities- if natural snow does not co operate.
Mayrhofen- much larger town- more accomodations to select from- much more shopping , night life ,discos more ski schools and ski shops to choose-
Much more ski terrain , lifts and capacity- , more ski huts- thus more to offer the skier.
Probably more connections from gateway airport.
May be better for first time skier in my opinion.
