Munich/Salzburg train or bus!

We plan to visit Salzburg early December and stay a few nights. Although return train times fit in with our flight to Munich, we wondered about taking the bus to keep the cost down. Can anyone advise.

Do you refer to a transfer bus from the airport ?

Look at the Bayern Ticket for an excelent price for transfers - 1 ticket up to 5 people can use it for fixed price of less than 30 euro.

I think you will find this the least costly transfer.

Some time constraints ( travel after 9 and regional trains- just a few minutes more than fast trains. )

put bayern ticket in search box to find much information much information.

With the airport bus from Salzburg to MUC, you save time - but most certainly do not keep costs down.

Thanks for the replies.

Have booked train online from Munich airport - Salzburg return. Works in well with the flight times and cost us around £35.00 each. Don%26#39;t know if that is excessive, but semed to be the easiest way to do it!

Found accommodation (after reading reports on T.A.) at Ambiente Struber. Looks lovely and seems to be easy to get into the old part of town from there.

Any advise or tips on where to eat and best sights to see would be very welcome (apart from the Xmas markets which we do plan to visit). Wondered about purchasing a %26#39;card%26#39; - is everything open in December to make it worthwhile?

This IS excessive. By taking regional trains between Munch and Salzburg you would be able to utilize Bavaria Ticket which would be good for the whole trip on regional trains (-%26gt; hourly between M and Salzburg) for 27 E - this for up to 5 people.

You don´t %26quot;book%26quot; the train anyway, the price you said is what you also would pay for a normal ticket at the last moment.

Buy the Salzburg Ticket. It is 31 euros for 48 hours. It inclused admission to all attractions and free use of all public transportaion.

We just returned from 3 days in Salzburg and it was the cleanest and friendlest place we have been. If you want a nice Mozart concert experience the St. Peters Skilskutter (sp), oldest restaurant in Europe, has dinner and concert of 45 euros. The food was excellent (3 courses, beverage extra) and music, with opera singers, was excellent. The singers were better than the ones we saw at the opera house in Vienna. It is right in old town.

Have a great time....we did.

Thank you for the tip and dinner recommendation. We may just book up for that!
