Fly over Vienna at New Years - Champagne and waltz music - dancing in the aisles. One hour plus flight - they say 2 airplanes are made available for this evening .

Sounds very unusual. Will you go? We have our favorite memories watching the fireworks from Restaurant Englehardt out in Heiligenstadt. Everybody waltzed at midnight and then the head of the Schwein was wheeled out and everyone had a piece for luck in the New Year.

Another good tip is also to drive up the little mountain road to the Kahlenberg or Leopoldsberg, and have a look down on the city from there, or you go up to Hotel Wilhelminenberg in the 14th ??? district, nice view from up there as well !

The Inner City thing is mayhem, I wouldn´t set a foot onto Stephansplatz from lets say 23:00 - 01:00, too many people, to many fireworks fired off by drunkens ... (I was a paramedic there for many years on that night), Rathausplatz with the big stage and the Waltzmusic is much nicer and way more relaxed !

Thank you for the tips ;)

My boyfriend and I will be in Vienna for the New Year%26#39;s celebrations and we would really want to know more about what is happening and where:)

We%26#39;ve been in Vienna 4 times before and it%26#39;s become our favourite city. We spent Christmas there last year, but this year we%26#39;re going for the New Year%26#39;s Eve. We loved the Christmas markets and we had Christmas lunch at Schoenbrunn palace - it was beautiful :)

I could have eaten only cakes - they were sooooo delicious!!

From what I read it seems the square in front of the Rathaus (cityhall) is the place to go on New Year%26#39;s night:) and that is very convenient for us as we%26#39;ll be staying in a hotel just minutes from the square.

Do you have any more suggestions? We%26#39;ll be in Vienna for about a week around the New Year%26#39;s. How%26#39;s the city on the 1st of January?....everything closed? what about the restaurants?

We also plan to see Salzburg in the first days of 2008:)

I%26#39;ll come back with lots to tell:) Thank you!
