Best Ski Resort in Austria

Hello

I%26#39;m planning a trip to Prague and to Austria next February, and we would like to go skiing in Austria.

Which is the best place to go?

Thank you very much!

I would like to know a bit more about your preferences:

-Would you like to stay in a small town or more in a cute village?

- in a remote area or in some apres-ski and night life as well? in a posh place?

- would you like to have choices of restaurants and shops or is it enough to stay in the hotel in a quiet area?

- would you like to stay in the really high mountains or more in a valley?

-close to an airport?

- do you prefer a large choice of slopes and lifts or are you beginners?

-would you prefer being close f.e. to Salzburg or Innsbruck to do some sight seeing day trips as well?

Hello

Thanks for your answer!

Actually I prefer a cute village rather than a posh place. I%26#39;ve never been in the Alpes or in that part of Europe so I would like to feel the %26quot;vibe%26quot; there.

I%26#39;m actually a beginner in ski. I can manage to make it to the medium but never to the black or difficult.

We%26#39;re planning to go from Prague or before our Czech Republic, so I it would be great if it is near that area, but if you think that the best place is on the other side of Austria, we would%26#39;t mind.

About the airports, it actually doesn%26#39;t matter.

I hope that you can help us with these information!

Kind regards!

One of the most beautiful villages with a skiing area is

Alpbach in the Tyrol - it is very charming, remote and pittoresque, but nothing if you like a good apres-ski or night-life:

Please, let me know if this is what you had in mind, because then I could give you more options!

...and in Alpbach i would recommend the hotel Boeglerhof:

Thank you very much for your recommendations!

It looks amazing!

I am glad you like it - of course this village is realy a gem with amazing atmosphere, but has not a lot of shops and not a big skiing area.

If you want a skiing area with more lifts and slopes, please also look at

the Arlberg area:

Wagrein (part of the Skiworld Amade):

But I think Alpbach has the most remote and pittoresque Alpine atmosphere, if that is what you are searching for! It is also not too from the Tyrols capital innsbruck, where you could go for a day trip:

And on your way to Alpbach you could pass Vienna

and Salzburg for a visit!

Another option, not a small village, but a nice little town in a beautiful setting at a lake surrounded by really high mountains.

Zell am See

And a really awesome small castle hotel - Castle (Schloss) Prielau:

Nearby there is also a glacier:

My family is planning a trip to Salzburg %26amp; Vienna 9 - 14 Dec. We are looking for a winter resort preferably nearer Vienna. We are hoping to do some snowboarding, tobogganing and ice skating. Any recommendations?

The bigger skiing areas closest to Vienna, which I would recommend are:

Schladming:

all the villages of Skiworld Amade:

http://en.skiamade.com/

St. Johann/Alpendorf, Wagrein, Flachau, Altenmarkt, ...

There are some smaller skiing areas which are closer to Vienna, but - in my opinion - more suitable for a day trip from Vienna (or a 1-2 night stay) than to staying there longer:

Semmering

Hochkar:

I forgot Lackenhof am Oetscher as one of the small skiing areas closer to Vienna:
