Reading both good and bad reviews on the above hotels has left me unable to decide on where to stay for our trip to Vienna in late December. At the moment I hold a tentative booking at the marriott. I tried the Grand Hotel but they show no availability for the dates required. We have a budget up to E400 per night. I would appreciate any suggestions and recommendations. Thank you.

If you like the style of the Grand hotel you culd try the Hotel Sacher instead:

The Meridien is very good too!
I also like:
Hollmann Beletage

and
Style Hotel

Did you try the new sister hotel to the Grand- it will open early next month and is immediately across the Ringstrasse from the Grand.
Propaganda says a great place

If no luck Lemeridien is the best of the 3 mentioned
also good but not mentioned often is the SAS Style Hotel- great location on Herrengasse near to the Hofburg Palace.

The Ambassador has the best location of them, right on the pedestrian area between the cathedral and the opera, and of the three, its the only one with a very renowned restaurant.
Le Meridien is definetly the most modern of them, and the Marriott the biggest, so biggest chance of getting a room, but also the oldest of the given three.
The Sacher is a very good 5* too, with a very familiar atmosphere due to high number of regular guests and very nice staff.
The SAS Palais Hotel next to the Grand Hotel is very nice as well, not too big.
And I would also recommend the %26quot;Imperial%26quot; and the %26quot;Bristol%26quot;, together with the sacher I think these are the most %26quot;Viennese%26quot; hotels one can imagine, in this range !

Thank you for all your replies. The following hotels are all showing no availability for the dates required.
Sacher, Grand Hotel, The Ring Hotel, SAS Palais, SAS Style, Imperial.
The Bristol shows availability but with rooms starting at E580 it is pushing things a bit but I have emailed them direct to see if they have any specials, wishful thinking though I imagine!
The Le Meridien shows availability as does the Marriott so now I am down to those 2. For about the same cost between the 2 of them we could either have a deluxe room at the Meridien or a junior suite at the Marriott. Having not visited Vienna before you comments are appreciated. Thank you.

Le Meridien - newer place, more modern rooms, moreamenities I suppose and the location is slightly better ...
The Marriott is definetly a nice hotel as well, but its kind of the negative example of how to build an international chain hotel, its got no local charme at all, could be standing in Rome, Paris, Washington or Singapure looking exactly the same ....

Thank you. I have chosen the Le Meridien, i think it will suit our needs well. Thanks again for all the advice, Bev
