Can someone please suggest the best neighborhood to look for a hotel? Should I start at the Innere Stadt and move out?
We travel with a mid range budget and like to be as close to most of the attractions as possible to keep down on travel time.
I apologize for such an open ended question but I can%26#39;t seem to find the best answer.

OK I%26#39;ll update after more investigation.
It looks like the Innere Stadt is the main attractions so with hotel prices being top there would anyone suggest staying on Mariahilfer strasse?
We still would like to be very close to everything but there is a point we hit where its better to take the bus and save 50 euros a night.

You can stay out on Mariahilferstrasse and still be reasonably close. We have stayed at the Fuerstenhof:

Great staff, good buffet breakfast that comes with the room, and a pretty good value. Rooms are very good,and totally safe. You can catch the U-bahn right in the square in front of the hotel and be in city center in approx. under 10 min. It is also a fun walk down Mariahilferstrasse to the Ring. I think they still offer a discount for booking over the internet. Though we usually stay in apts now when we visit Wien I still recommend this hotel most highly. Try room #40 which is the one we liked very much.

Hi scott,
I was in Vienna last year (was a student back then) and was staying in the InnerStadt. I dont know what your budget is but I was staying in a studio apartment (along with my parents) for around 75 euros a night. You can look at some options here on this website

Hi,
We%26#39;ve been making the same decision, and finally booked last night. We chose Hotel Austria - based on it%26#39;s excellent reviews here, location and what we considered was a reasonable price for being absolute city centre. The other 2 we considered were Kartnerhof and Stefanie which were both slightly cheaper.
Happy hunting!

I would recommend either the 1st district %26quot;Innere stadt%26quot;, which is the best location you can get - or a t least one of the districts surrounding the 1st one, which means 3rd - 9th.
What do you exactly mean by mid-range budget?
|||
Thanks.
Mid-range for me equals Hoping to pay no more then 100 euros a night for a Friday and Saturday night April 11-13th.
Right now I have 2 marked in TA. Pension Suzanne and Pension Neuer Markt.
Is there a lot of shopping on Mariahilfer Strasse? Might you suggest to stay closer to the Museums Quarter?
|||
We stayed in VIII Josefstadt, at Hotel Graf Stadion. Walking distance to everything and enough around the hotel to suffice (bars, markets, restaurants). Delightful in fact.....
We had intended on looking into Pension Suzanne, but our email was never answered.
Good luck and enjoy this great city!

Yes, Mariahilferstrasse ins THE main shopping street in Vienna, especially for the locals, as this is where the affordable shopping is ... but it calms down a lot during the evening and night, so I wouldn´t be to concerned about that !

Thanks.
So with it calming down would it just be better to stay close to the Innere Stadt?

You are not that far awy from it anyway, and there is good public transport going into town from there, I actually thought you are in doubt about the area beeing too noisy. There isn´t much nightlife on Mariahilferstrasse itself, but there is a nice old area not far away called Spittelberg, it used to be Viennas red light district until about 1900, then it was nearly destroyed, but some artists rescued the area and brought a lot of little cafes, restaurants, galleries ... in there, and now its really trendy to live there, its just two or three blocks behind the big department stores.
