We are thinking of going to Salzburg early January to celebrate my husband%26#39;s 50th Birthday.Would January not be a good time to go?
I know the weather would be very cold but would any of the sites be closed and would it be so quiet that there would not be any atmosphere?

Yes, the weather will be cold at that time of the year, but the town will be beautiful as ever. It will not be quiet as Salzburg is not a museum, but a real town with everyday´s life and believe me, you will be very happy, if it is not as filled with these crowds of tourists as it it sometimes....like before Christmas....it is hard to walk in the city enter then....and you will be more able to inhale the atmosphere when it is not too crowded.

I lived there for a winter and that is one of the most quiet and serene times to go. Be prepared for bitter cold nights. The streets are usually empty compared to during the tourist seasons (summer). It%26#39;s nice to see a city with locals and not tourists.
