State Opera Afternoon performance

Hello, could someone help me out on the dress code for afternoon performances, we are going on January 2nd - would my husbands dinner suit be over the top for this?

Generally speaking, the dresscodes is the same, afternoon or evening performance. And Vienna is a tolerant city, in an oldfashioned way, you can hardly overdress, if your husband feels comfy in it, he shall wear it ! But if you want to save packing it, one step more casual would be fine. in general any combination of trousers (no jeans pls.), shirt, tie, and jacket / blazer, that doesn´t kill the eyesight will be fine ...
