What does 'zug' mean in German?

I have purchased Sparschiene train tickets for Vienna to Venice and am trying to translate my ticket printout. Stop laughing!!

I have managed to decode most of it but the word Zug fails me.

It says Zug 31 ab 6:30. I know 6:30 is the departure time but can someone help me out with the first bit?

Also will we find it easy to work out which platform our train leaves from once we arrive at the station (Sud). Or could Zug 31 be the platform number?

Zug used in this place would translate as %26quot; train%26quot; thus train 31

All train stations will have large message boards that will provide information on arriving and departing trains

destination, time, track number etc.

On the individual platform you will find a board indicating the train car numbers- if you have a reservation it is easy to know where your car is located in relation to the entire train - saves you boarding train and then having to walk in the aisle from car to car until you find the correct car .

For the time after the timetable change (9. December) there are no tracks published yet... you could check before at www.oebb.at in the timetable-query. But really no use to, as platforms can change... same as flying!

You can find large departure boards which indicate the track number... really easy!

By the way:

Train..Zug

Wagen..Coach

Sitz..Seat

Fenster..Window

Mitte..Middle

Gang..Aisle

Board the coach with the number on your ticket, the seat numbers can be usually on the luggage rack over the seats (same as flying or busss).

Do buy some drinks and snacks before... the train has a restaurant coach but much more convenient to buy some drinks before... and definately cheaper.

Zug - pretty town in Switzerland

Zug = a pull into a direction

Zug = move on a chess board

Zug = military unit

Zug - rifling in a gun barrel
