hi,
I m planning for a long w/end in salzburg from 09/11, as a single traveller I wonder if a 2 nights / 3 days would be enough time to see
the city without getting bored or if an extra day would make a difference.
Is there much to do??
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

In my opinion 2 days would be enough to explore the city of Salzburg:

You could think od a day trip to the nearby Salzkammergut area, a beautiful lake area, but it is only woth ist, if the weather is fine:

Or you could also go to Vienna for a one night stay - you could go there by train very easily within 2,5 to 3 hours:

Train schedule:

Vienna is a more lively city than Salzburg, so you might get more distraction.

Hi Ulrike,
Thanks very much for your advice, well I have booked for 2 nights accom and a full 3 days staying from 10/11, as I kind of imagined it would be enough. I just want to chill out for few days and hopefully get decent weather and good photos.
Thanks again, and if you are in Salzburg over that w/end, i will be more than happy to offer good pint.
Ciao

I travelled alone this past September and spent 4 days in Salzburg. I know this is a personal preference more than anything, but I found that 4 days was not nearly enough for me. Of my 4 days there, 1 full day it rained constantly, and the other day it rained about half the day. I used my time exploring museums and doing things that could be done indoors, but found that I could have used at least another couple of days to enjoy even more of the city, as well as the Salzkammergut lake district. Salzburg is relatively small, but I found myself wanting to take things at a slower pace to absorb the atmosphere and to appreciate the quaintness of every %26quot;nook and cranny%26quot; of the city. I%26#39;m also not a huge fan of extremely large cities (though I actually enjoyed Munich quite a bit....Zurich less so). Here in the U.S., so many people love to visit cities like New York (one of my least favorite cities in the world), and others prefer the smaller cities. I%26#39;m a very low-maintenance person with a very high threshhold for boredom, so I could find myself staying in Salzburg for a couple of weeks and enjoying myself immensely. :)

In the last three years I%26#39;ve spent a total of 10 weeks in Salzburg and still haven%26#39;t seen everything. I spotted a church (the oldest in Salzburg) on a website the other day and realised I%26#39;d passed by it a hundred times and not known it was there. I guess it all depends what a person wants from their trip. Like the previous poster I like to take my time and enjoy the city at a slower pace. If you%26#39;re only there for a short time you have to choose a few prominent sights to see. I recommend lots of return visits to Salzburg so that you can get to see everything :-)

Liz, what church would that be (the oldest in Salzburg)? I was under the impression that the oldest in Salzburg might be the Franciscan Church, though I was never clear on the exact year it was built (all of the literature seemed to give it a range of years from what I remember).

Hi there, here is a link to the church. It is St Michael%26#39;s, in Residenzplatz. Of course I%26#39;ve seen the building before but didn%26#39;t even realise what it was:

Incidentally there are excavations going on in Residenzplatz and this weekend they discovered the remains of a late Roman building. At the end of the month they will cover the excavations up until next Spring (presumably because of the weather and the Christmas markets).
Liz.

Oh, of course, that%26#39;s a beautiful church painted in some nice colors. I never would have known it to be the oldest in Salzburg though. Even my four days there didn%26#39;t guarantee that I would know everything there is to know about Salzburg.
