Airport to Das Tyrol

Hello, folks.

A friend and I are visiting Vienna from Dec 6th to Dec 9th. We are staying at Das Tyrol, near to Museumsquartier U-bahn station.

I am trying to work out how to get there from the airport. If we use S-/U-bahn, we will take S-7 to Wien Mitte, then U-4 to Karlsplatz.

From Karlsplatz we can either walk, or change to U2 for Museumsquartier.

What is the walk from Karlsplatz (along Getreidemarkt?) like? It%26#39;s not too far, and we won%26#39;t have much luggage (a small backpack each), but will it be a nasty start to our stay in lovely Vienna?

Is there a better way to get to Das Tyrol (corner of Mariahilferstrasse and Koenigsklostergasse) than S7-U4-U2?

Thanks,

Nick

From airport take the CAT (city airport train) or the S-Bahn to Wien Mitte/Landstrasse and there change to the subway - Line U3 (orange line) - in direction of Ottakring until Neubaugasse station, take the Stiftgasse exit - 7 minutes walk down to the hotel!

Thank you, Ulrike - and my apologies for missing that possibility from the hotel%26#39;s web site.

A good alternative especially if weather is bad and /or you wish a short tour of the city -

from WienMitte take U-4 in the direction Heilingenstadt one stop to Schwedenplatz - go to the surface following signs Rotenturmstrasse - at the corner you will find the stop for Bus 2 A . this is the end stiop for this line and the bus often sits waiting there for correct departing time - bus will be red/ white color - the bus 2A will take you directly to the stop just across the street from the hotel.

Good advantage - you receive a mini tour nof the Vienna city center on the way . The bus will pass Kohlmarkt shopping area , Michaelerplatz , the Hofburg Palace, Heldenplatz , Fine Arts Museum, the Ringstrasse ( main city boulevard ) Perhaps 8 stops to the Tyrol. I think it is the 2nd stopafter you turn off of the Ringstrasse The hotel will be on the left side of the street - just across from the bus stop.

This route may take a few minutes more but the opportunity to see a little of the city and also judge how close the hotel is to major sights can really be useful.

In bad weather - saves much trouble .

Thank you for the tip, vertical - it sounds a good idea, especially if the weather is bad.
