Hi,
Ok my boyfriend and I went skiing for the first time last January (2007) in Soldeu, we stayed in the Sport Hermitage Hotel, even though I was quite pricey it was worth it. The only thing was the snow wasn%26#39;t great until the 3rd day, we were lucky it snowed at all as we were learning to ski on ice!!!
So we want to go back skiing this year (20th of January 2008) but don%26#39;t know where to start, i have a few questions if anyone could help or give sugestions that would be really great.
1. we are now begginer/intermediste skiers so lots of blue and red slope...we found soldeu was good as we could ski into the next town and not the same slope all the time.
2. the ski school in soldeu was amazing and we did provate lessons also in the afternoon...that ski school has been voted best in europe and we would love somewhere close to as good as it.
3. the hotel we stayed in had an amazing 4 floor spa with all sorts of pools and saunas etc...i know we won%26#39;t find womething as good but a big spa is a must :)
4. we%26#39;re not to sure that we want to go back to andorra at all, we would probably prefer somewhere with more guarenteed snow..
5. the apres ski and townneeds to be lively as we like going out in the evening, or at least having the option.
6.and finally great food in the hotel as we will be going for half board...
7. oh and one more this...ski right down to the hotel..i don%26#39;t want to be getting buses etc. we were right at the gondella last year.
8.budget is between 1000-1500 rounghly each...
9.4/5 star hotel
sorry im being so specific but if anyone has any suggestions we would really appriciate them....thanks so much for reading this...

I would suggest...
...Hotel Trofana Royal in Ischgl:

This hotel as well as the village of Ischgl matches all your criteria!

Completely supporting Ulrikes recommendation, it doesn´t get much better than this place ...
I have thought about a few others, like the Interalpenhotel in Seefeld, the Tennerhof in Kitzbühl, The Grand Hotel in Zell am See ..., but they all missed one of your expectations, mostly the close distance to the slopes, the more luxurious places tend to be in more secluded spots of the wons and villages, probably due to the fact that a ski-sloop, as nice as it is in Winter, doesn´t necessarily look good during the summer , not the kidn of thing you want to look at during champage breakfast on the terrace in July, the damage done by the skiers can be fairly obvious...
Still. there are two more hotels in the same resort, Ischgl (which actually now has a reputation of beeing the Ibiza of the Alps), that you might wanna think about both are superb 4* or even 5*, and both are next to the cable car station in Ischgl, not sure now, they share one big wellness place, which is in the hotel Madlein, but discretly reachable from the Elisabet as well by an escalator:
http://www.ischglelisabeth.com/en/ - very nice but more traditional
http://www.ischglmadlein.com/en/ - very modern, very posh, Paris Hilton stayed there recently !
Greets %26amp; and have fun !

Be careful about the Madlein, there are bad reviews on this forum and I have heard not the best things myself - I would not opt for it!

For Trofana Royal there are only excellent reviews:

Friends of mine, who are only used to stay in the best hotels, were very satisfied!

thats great thanks, any other resorts you would recommend? just to have a look at? can you ski close to the hotel trofana? thanks so much for the help

Hotel Madlein spa and sauna, female employees recently offered more than usual services to clients.- a big scandal in town.
Elisabeth Hotel , 5 star ,has a perfect location with the ability to ski back from the mountain summit to the door of the hotel. Good outdoor bar for apre ski .A lift just across the street from the hotel too.

Uuups, looks like the Madeleine is a case of %26quot;The higher you climb the deeper you risk to fall ...%26quot;
Sorry, I didn´t know about the recent problems in the Madlein, wouldn´t have recommended it then ....
If you think about different resorts, you could put in the following into the search engine: Sölden, Kitzbühl, Zell am See, Bad Gastein, Obertauern, the whole Arlberg region (Lech, Zürs, Klosters, St. Anton ...), there is plenty of places to choose from ...

Yes, Hotel Trofana Royal is in perfect location close to slopes and lifts!
|||
Other options - Fritz has also mentioned some areas...
- Kitzbuehel
a posh place in the Austrian mountains (the Aspen of Austria), very could town with excellent nightlife; the only negative is, that it is located on lower elevation, so that snow is not guaranteed:

http://www.bergbahn-kitzbuehel.at/en/
Hotel Schwarzer Adler - perfect hotel in town, but a bit further from the lifts and slopes:
www.adlerkitz.at/Willkommen.19.0.html?%26L=1
Hotel Arosa - directly on the slope!
www.a-rosa.de/en/resorts/kitzbuehel.html
- Zell am See
good according snow as a glacier is nearby, but not as lively as Kitzbuehel

Hotel Mavida
